’78 giri’ (78rpm) is a new initiative promoted by Twilight Music and realized with the contribution of the two most important Italian archives, the Italian State Record Library of the Ministry for Arts and Culture (Discoteca di Stato – Museo dell’Audiovisivo) and the Radio Rai Audio-library. The objective of this collection is the recovery of the historic and industrial memory of a phonographic medium, the 78rpm record. After a long process of restoration the original audio material is accurately published in precious cds with special contents and photos. We believe that not only the historical but primarily the artistic and cultural value of the 78rpm records kept in these two archives deserved a rediscovery and its own niche in the music market. The first cd of the ‘78rpm’ catalogue is dedicated to the singer Teddy Reno who started his collaboration with RAI in the biennium 1948-1949 when in the Studio B in Via Asiago he recorded a series of performances with the orchestras directed by Gorni Kramer and Lelio Luttazzi. Teddy Reno was also an actor and the founder of the record label CDG in 1948; thanks to his frequent travels to the United States he brought to Italy the Italian versions of many American hits. The songs included in this cd testify the unforgettable beginning of the artistic career of an important ‘voice’ in the Italian music history of the post-war period: Arrivederci Roma (he even recorded the first English version for Decca in the US), Malafemmina, White Christmas, Les Feuilles Mortes, just to name a few titles.
